Stella was born in Vienna, Austria. In 1939 she emigrated to the United States to escape the Nazi-Regime. She made her Certificate in General Education at the New York University and a Certificate in Human Relations at the New School for Social Research.
Author of numerous books and articles, Stella K. Hershan has lectured internationally on women in history and lives now in The Village in New York City. Mrs Hershan received several awards for her literary work as in 1986 with the Golden medal of Merit from the City of Vienna, Austria an 1995 with The New York Public Library Award for Best Biography for Teenagers (for “The Candles She Lit”)
